Paper Work, love the Paper Work....

It was painful, in the pocket book, $240 dollars later.... the paperwork has been signed and filed and now it's just the waiting. We have to attend parenting classes, even though my youngest is 17.. but whatever.

So 91 days from today, after I send the paper back to the court with the date I want for the case, it should be final. I wanted to set the date as 11-11, but that's Veteran's Day, and I don't think the court will be open on that day. Darn.

After that, the real fun begins. With papers in hand there is all the name changing things to do. So really, I will have spent $240 to get rid of the ex-baggage and the opportunity to change my last name to whatever I want. I've always believed there were dragons, I've always thought it would be fun to be a dragon, and NOW I will be one.

I'll have more to report after the parenting class, and when I decide on the final date.

Paperwork - it's all about the paperwork.....

I'm doing the big D thing, by myself, without the benefit of legal representation. In Washington State you can file your divorce papers with the court for a mere $130 dollars or so, and there are forms online that make the process very easy. The biggest problem I've encountered is the parenting plan that WA requires. The want to know where all your money comes from and where it goes (household wise anyway). They require this information for both parents. This is where the struggle to finish comes to light.

My soon-to-be EX moved out of state which is making things easier, and harder. Easier because he's not stopping by every weekend for visitation my kids don't want, but harder because I have to send the paperwork down to him and wait for it to be returned.

I'm lucky, because we both want this action, and if we both sign the papers before they are signed, there are no extra forms and processes to be done before the action can be final. I think it's still going to take 90 days though, and that just seems wrong.

I plan to submit a letter with the paperwork asking that the court consider 30 days instead of 90, but I'm not holding out a lot of hope that it will be a shorter process.

My soon-to-be EX wants to file some other legal paperwork by the end of July, so I'm very in need of finishing the documents so I can forward them on for signatures.

I'm targeting mid next week for mailing, crossing my fingers that I don't find any missing items when I review the instructions one last time before it's all packaged and ready to go.

In the beginning...

...this web space will be used for rants and raves, and all things transition. I'm going thru a divorce, beginning anew, and I'll not apologize for any content here, so be warned.
